Its back, Valentine’s Day has come around once again and for those of you who are looking forward to spending it with your loved one, we have been finding out just how romantic a place Bristol can be. It is not up there with Paris, we agree, but we have pulled together 10 of the most romantic things you could be enjoying in Bristol this February 14th with the person you love.
“The way to my heart is through my stomach”
You often hear the phrase that the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach and in a lot of cases this is true and anyway who doesn’t love being treated to a fantastic and romantic meal (served with some bubbly of course).
If you are looking for that perfect romantic dining experience in Bristol then one of the best choices has to be The Glassboat. Located, of course, in the Bristol floating harbour The Glassboat is the perfect combination of stunning location with high quality food, everything you could wish for in a romantic meal. Whether it is this Valentine’s Day or you want to treat your loved one another day, the star lit views of the harbour are sure to impress.
The Glassboat has the perfect romantic setting but if the food there isn’t to your taste then we have found an alternative Valentine’s Day menu that is sure to wow in terms of quality and romance. Located in Clifton, The Cowshed, serves simple, honest and good quality British food, and with a V-Day menu designed around sharing, we are sure you will be salivating at the thought of their dishes. It is the perfect place to share fantastic food with your loved one this Valentine’s Day.
Floating on the Breeze
Subject to not being scared of heights why not treat your other half to a romantic Balloon Ride. The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta is famous world round but Bristol’s love for hot air balloons doesn’t just stop there, you can enjoy a balloon flight this February 14th with Baileys Balloons. Whether you choose to have it with or without champagne (all though we would recommend it) you can enjoy this truly individual and wonderful experience and take in the views of Bristol from the sky.
The Romance of Walking and Bristol Views
Definitely one of the most famous structures in all of Bristol this iconic iron monster actually has a softer side, a romantic walk along the Clifton Suspension Bridge and up to the to the Clifton Observatory will not only offer up some of the most beautiful views of the Avon Gorge and the surrounding Bristol area but who wouldn’t enjoy a romantic stroll hand in hand? And with the chilly weather still around you will have the perfect excuse to cuddle up with each other to enjoy the view.
If you want to get out and about to celebrate with the one you love then this is definitely worth a try.
Loved up Stargazers
Have you ever sat outside and just looked up at the stars? Yes it could be a little more difficult if you don’t live in the countryside but At-Bristol have found a solution for the star gazer in you. You could join astronomy experts at the At-Bristol Planetarium to find out all about the science behind stars and learn what to look out for in your own garden. Yes science doesn’t sound that romantic but everyone knows that there is definitely just something special about looking up at the stars with the one you love; and once you know what to look out for you can grab some blankets and cushions and cuddle up together and do some stargazing of your very own.
Romantic Night Away
Most of our romantic suggestions so far are just for the day but that doesn’t have to be the case, why not splurge for a romantic night away this year, and if you want to find that perfect romantic hotel to really treat your other half then you won’t find much better than the Hotel du Vin. With 40 rooms each one different from the next you could start you Valentine’s Day celebrations early with their Loving Friday special offer. You will be completely relaxed and refreshed to welcome in the big day after curling up in the Egyptian cotton sheets and relaxing in their roll top baths. There is nothing more romantic than being able to escape with the one you love and you wouldn’t regret choosing this hotel as the place to escape to.
And if you get hungry during your romantic night away but don’t fancy going out then the in house bistro serves equally as good classic French food with a British twist, all washed done with a fantastic wine from their extensive list.
Monkey About
Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be about romantic meals, champagne, chocolate and roses (all though we girls do like those things). Why not have fun and monkey about with your partner at Bristol Zoo and Gardens who have their ‘cheap’ romance offer on for Valentine’s Day weekend. Just like you and your partner you can wonder round looking at the equally loved up animals and when you are finished there then you can move on to the beautiful gardens.
There you go a fun and cheap outing for Valentine’s Day, after all who doesn’t love animals.
Trip down the River
So far we have already taken to the sky for a romantic balloon trip but if we come back to earth you can enjoy an equally as romantic boat trip along the river Avon. Once again this will give you and your partner the opportunity to take in the Bristol scenery (just from the comfort of a boat this time) and to make it even more special you could choose one of the Afternoon Tea trips which will also give you some time to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea and look out on to the river.
Relax and Unwind
With busy work and family lives sometimes all you want to do is relax and unwind, and there couldn’t be a better excuse to do this than to celebrate your love for each other. Yes there are spas all over the UK but you won’t be disappointed if you head over to The Relaxation Centre where they have a special offer on a Valentine’s Spa Package throughout the Valentine’s weekend. You are sure to have a fantastic day after being pampered in the spa and enjoying a couple’s holistic massage.
So if your partner is feeling stressed at the moment then what better romantic gift could there be for you both to enjoy.
Shopping of a different kind
If it is shopping that you like, then instead of heading straight to Cabot Circus why not try something different and peruse the stalls with your loved one at St Nicholas Market. A beautiful and historical Georgian market full of quirky stalls, independent cafes, locally produced products and diverse street food; yes it may not be as glamourous as Hotel Du Vin but this is the perfect place to wander round hand in hand. And gentlemen if you have somehow forgotten to purchase your lovely lady a gift then what a great place to find some lovely homemade jewellery or whatever else she may want.
Had enough of walking?
Finally on our list, if you have had enough of walking, or even floating (on water or in the air) then why not spend the day cycling along the Bristol-to-Bath Railway Path. A romantic journey for two will provide a tranquil yet slightly muddy route between these two great cities that would be a perfect day out for Valentine’s Day. Bring along a little picnic or find a nice local pub to stop in along the way. The Jolly Sailor is a fabulous pub right on the Lock at Saltford with warm log fires and cosy corners to cuddle up.
If this sounds like your idea of a romantic day out then you will be able to find out everything you need to know about the route right here.
Who knew that Bristol was so full of romantic things to do and places to visit, there is certainly a wide variety of romantic ideas to choose from for February 14th and these are just what we consider to be our top ten, Bristol is full of many more romantic little hideaways that are waiting to be discovered.
So how about it, make Bristol your city of love this Valentine’s Day.
