Are you moving into a new house? Would you like a HUG (Home User Guide)?
The National House Building Council (NHBC) are the UK’s leading independent standard-setting body and provider of warranty and insurance for new homes.
The NHBC works with builders, home owners and housing associations to ensure that the correct standards are set for new home construction and to protect the owners.
Bearing their expertise and standards in mind, when it comes to buying and moving into a new home, the NHBC will be near the top of your list if you need a HUG, or in other words a Home User Guide.
Here at Green Spinnaker we are also committed to building quality homes and are happy to work with the NHBC to ensure that we meet their high standards.
What Is the NHBC Home User Guide?
The NHBC Home User Guide, also known as HUG, is a service that comes as part of any new property which is registered with the NHBC Buildmark cover.

A HUG will be available to the new homeowner from the point of plot reservation and is an online tool set up by the developer with information about the NHBC Buildmark warranty, what you need to know about moving into a new home, as well as more personalised details in regards to your very own property.
How will it benefit you?
So now you know what the Home User Guide actually is, let’s look at how it will benefit you as a new home owner.
Just because you have completed on the purchase of your new property doesn’t necessarily mean you want to be completely abandoned by the seller or developer. The HUG provides you with all the details you need for a full after sale service and any contact details you may require.
If you have ever purchased a property before then you will already know that there is a lot of information that you need to know about the property, moving process, and what happens once you have completed the purchase. What would you prefer; a mound of papers, leaflets and guides or an easily accessible online platform where everything is consolidated in one place?
This is the good thing about the Home User Guide everything you need to know about your home will be in one point of reference and it is completely personalised for you.
As well as this, homes constructed with the NHBC approval will come with a 10 year NHBC Buildmark warranty, all of which you can find out more about in your HUG.
For some of you this could be your first new build or even first home all together. Another benefit of the HUG is that it will provide you with everything you need to know about buying and moving into a new build property.
One final benefit of your Home User Guide is that it provides you with automatic reminders of things like when your boiler need to be serviced. In addition to these reminders, you can set your own reminders for other important things such as your insurance renewal dates. Handy right!
